Vista Saved Games

Jump to: navigation, search

Running the games under Vista and Windows 7 may make finding your saved games difficult.

There are several solutions.

Find the games where Vista "hides" them

Note: Example is for AGEOD American Civil War.
Substitute the installation folder name for other games
  1. Start Menu -> Computer
  2. On the left hand side under the folders tab there should be an entry the name of the User (Bob, Steve, Stacey, etc.)
  3. Open up the folder.
  4. Open up the folder AppData
AppData -> Local -> Virtual Store -> Program Files -> Ageods American Civil War -> ACW -> Saves

Run game in XP compatible mode

A "fix" for this for anyone wanting the saves to appear in the Saves folder where they should be.

Set the game to run in compatibility mode for XP sp2 and everything works as described in the manual regarding saved games. To do this:

  1. Right-click on the Game Shortcut (example:ACW) on the desktop
  2. Go to the Compatibility tab
  3. Tick the boxes for
    1. "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP sp2" and
    2. "Run this program as an administrator"

Reinstall game, not in \Program Files directory

Note: Example is for Wars in America.
Substituute the installation folder name for other games
  1. De-activate your UAC
how-to for Vista at: Disable UAC
To disable UAC in Win7:
Click to open User Account Control Settings.
1) To turn off UAC, move the slider to the Never notify position, and then click OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. You will need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off.
2) To turn on UAC, move the slider to choose when you want to be notified, and then click OK. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  1. Uninstall the game
  2. Use Explorer to find "Wars in America" folder under Program Files.
  3. Delete the "Wars in America" Directory and all it contains [you will lose saved games]
  4. Reinstall WIA, but change the default directory box to read "C:\AGEOD\Wars in America" [or any hard drive you wish]
  5. Download the latest patch from the forums
  6. Extract the patch file and run it (it should automatically go to the new installation folder)
  7. Run WIA
