National Regions

These regions are used to determine where is your national soil, but they are not obligatorily controlled by you. If under your control, a national region will be factored in the population contentment and dynamic of the turn, i.e the population of the region will use up products and pay for them. This population can also go unhappy if they don't have the merchandises they want to buy. Also, all national regions you control are considered to hold your national stocks (each and everyone), so the national regions are important to determine when a merchandise reaches your nation. National regions are either hard coded (by the scenario) or are added dynamically during the game if your state ethnic is present at 25% or higher in the region, or if your nationality is present at 50% or higher.

Claimed Regions

This is the list of non-colonial regions that you can request during a peace treaty (you can also ask for any National or De Jure regions, or any colonial regions). You can't ask for others regions though. Claimed regions are either hard coded (by the scenario) or are added dynamically during the game if your state ethnic is present at 10% or higher in the region, or if your nationality is present at 25% or higher.

De Jure Regions

De Jure is the Latin expression for 'By Right', in opposition to De Facto 'By Fact'. This is the list of regions that you could rightfully own. Often the National regions list will be the same, but not always. You get a Causus Belli on any nation that owns one of your De Jure regions.

Summary

  • De Jure: used to know if you have a Causus Belli against a nation
  • National: Used in population and commerce segments.
  • All three: Regions you can ask during peace treaty.
