Depending of the game, there are many different resources available at the player disposal. If the game is using a simple economy, then money, war supplies and conscripts are the available resources.

If in advanced economy, like in PON, the resources are much more diverse and some can even be added by modding, if of the Merchandise type. Resources are used for a variety of purpose like recruiting units, building structures, using historical options, etc.
