SOI are colonial regions in the world that can earn Prestige Points to some nations. These nations will strive to take hold of them before others can get it, as SOI can (and will) overlap, creating tensions between nations. SOI are restricted to colonial regions. National regions are de facto in the "SOI" (broad sense) of the nation owning it.
SOI are defined at the colony level, i.e a potential colony is an ensemble of regions (an area), and a value is attached to it, for a given nation. If no value is attached to this area, then the SOI value will be the default one, which is -5 at the moment (colSOIValDefault is the corresponding exported variable).
A nation get (or lose) this amount of Prestige Points each turn, if it has 100% Colonial Penetration in all regions of the area, and if the colony has at least Protectorate status (for the gain) or if the amount is negative.
- If the value is positive but the area don't have at least Protectorate Status, then the gain is halved.
For the rest, all is made in ratio, i.e if only half the regions are under 50% Colonial Penetration (in average) then the nation would only gain 1/4 of this value.
SOI are defined/edited/evaluated with these scripts commands:
In addition to these definitions, all positive SOI will automatically generate around them a 'secondary SOI' value of half the value they have. This calculated, secondary SOI, has a thickness of 1 region, i.e in others terms, a given SOI area will create around it an extra border of one region which has half its value, if positive (negative SOI don't 'leak').
During the hosting phase, the hosting module will check what are the gains and loses of Prestige Points from SOI and tell the player about the change.
There is also a color filter associated to SOI, as it is important for the player to know where lies his interest in colonization.
