Strategic Command World War I: The Great War 1914-1918 is the latest grand strategy game in the series from award winning game designer Hubert Cater. It is more than just another addition to the Strategic Command series - it is an entire game engine at your fingertips!

Set in a fully enhanced two-dimensional isometric environment, Strategic Command World War I: The Great War 1914-1918 combines the ease of play and accessibility of previous releases in the Strategic Command series, while adding a number of new features, including some based on suggestions submitted by players.

Bigger, better and expandable, Strategic Command World War I: The Great War 1914-1918 continues the award winning series that has entertained casual wargamers and historical grognards for almost decade!

Strategic Command World War I: The Great War 1914-1918 contains a number of major campaigns that span the period 1914-1918 including a monster campaign featuring the biggest map of Europe and the Atlantic yet, at over 39,168 tiles, or 384x102!

Boasting new unit types and completely new features to cover trench warfare, aerial reconnaissance, shell supplies, national morale and more, the game engine has been redesigned so that it can thoroughly represent WWI. At the same time, the engine can still be used for WWII games so that players will now have the best of both worlds.

The flagship campaigns that come with this release cover the war in Europe starting with the great German offensive into France in August 1914 and ending with the final grand battles in France and Flanders in 1918. The battles fought on the Eastern Front and in the Italian, Balkan, and Middle Eastern theaters are all fully represented too.

Strategic Command World War I: The Great War 1914-1918 provides you with the opportunity to re-write history in a war that changed the destiny of Europe but of the whole world. To win, you must manage your resources wisely, incorporate diplomacy and shrewd decisions, invest in technological research, and apply sound warfare strategies. Will you lead your forces to total victory, or ultimately fail and fall to bitter defeat?

New Features

* Trench Warfare - Units can build trenches and trench lines act to block further spotting under Fog of War
* Shells - Artillery and Rail Guns now accumulate shells each turn and may fire as many shells as they have available
* Research - Trench Warfare and Shell Production have been added to the available research types
* Reconnaissance Spotting - Recon Bombers allow you to fly spotting missions behind enemy lines, especially handy when you suspect a major offensive is in the works
* National Morale - This value can be increased or decreased by special events, combat losses, enemy and friendly territory held, and it can influence not only individual unit morale but also the entire collapse of a nation if the value drops to below critical levels
* Zoom - Game map can now be zoomed 2X from the normal display level
* WWII Customization - switching the engine to play a WWII game just takes one click in the editor!

:signal:

Key New Features

Deployment Phase
For enhanced flexibility and replayability! Key units can now be deployed where the player wishes at the start of a campaign before any fighting starts.

New Supply Rules
For enhanced strategic realism! Units defending resources that have been cut off from their home territory will now find it much harder to hold out, and damaged HQs will provide reduced logistical support.

Armored Trains
For enhanced historical realism! Our new Russian Civil War campaign just wouldn’t have been right without them!

Improved War Map
To help you plan your battles!

Main Campaigns
1914 Call to Arms – Breakthrough Edition
A revised and significantly enhanced version of this grand campaign covering the whole war.
* Germany now has an opportunity to decide right from the start whether to focus on France or Russia first.
* The timing of the UK’s entrance into the war will now depend on a number of factors, including whether or not Belgium is invaded.

The enhanced strategic opportunities provided by these improvements, coupled with the new supply system, should give countless hours more fun re-fighting one of the greatest wars in history.

1914 Ostaufmarsch
The German army has deployed in the east to deal with Russia first, leaving the French for later. Let the march to the east begin!

1914 France’s Struggle
A streamlined version of Call to Arms focusing just on the Western Front. Fast and fun to play, this is an excellent scenario in which to hone your strategies for the battle of France!

1914 Russia's War
A streamlined version of Call to Arms so that you can focus your attention solely on the Eastern Front. Like 1914 France's Struggle, this is an ideal campaign if you fancy something a bit quicker or are looking to test out your strategies before engaging in a larger campaign.

1914 March on Paris
A divisional level “Beer and Pretzels” campaign where you can re-fight the first two months of the war in the west. Both sides can choose their strategy and whether or not Belgium or Holland are invaded will depend on both sides.

1916 East Africa
Von Lettow-Vorbeck’s Askaris take on the might of the British Empire! This is a full scale campaign allowing you to play the fighting here from General Smuts invasion of the German colony, right up to von Lettow-Vorbeck’s surrender in November 1918. Will the British, Belgians and Portuguese force him to surrender earlier, or will they themselves be the victims of his cunning use of mobile warfare?
Image

1918 Ludendorff Offensive
It is March 1918 and Germany stands poised to launch its great spring offensive in the west in this divisional level campaign. Given the increasing number of American forces now arriving to serve on the Western Front, this is Germany’s last chance to launch a war winning offensive to knock France out of the war. Choose your strategy and follow that route to a glorious victory!
1918 Russian Civil War

Bolsheviks, Whites, Interventionists, Makhnovists and more, they’re all here in this action packed campaign covering a civil war that changed the world! Will the Cossacks reach Moscow, or will Trotsky form a Red Army that can stop them in their tracks?

Mini-Campaigns

1912 First Balkan War
The Balkan League goes to war with the Ottoman Empire. Can the Turks be driven from mainland Europe?

1914 Tannenberg
Paul von Hindenburg must halt the Russian invasion of East Prussia. Can his great victory be repeated, or will the Russians inflict a crushing defeat on Imperial Germany so soon after the outbreak of war?
Image

1915 Breakthrough
A hypothetical scenario set around the battle of Loos, where the British and French achieve a breakthrough. Here is an opportunity to discover what would have happened had the cavalry gone through. Could the Germans have been chased out of France?

1915 Siege of Kut
General Townshend stands besieged in Kut, with Ottoman forces swarming around his positions. In the tradition of 19th century colonial campaigns, a British relief force is on its way. But can they reach Kut before Townshend surrenders?

1916 Verdun
Von Falkenhayn launches his great offensive against this important French city, guarded by the crucial defensive positions of Forts Vaux and Douaumont. Will a German victory ensue, or will the French be able to proudly declare that “they did not pass”?
Image

1916 Jutland
The British Grand Fleet clashes with the German High Seas Fleet in this refight of the war’s greatest naval battle.

1916 Brusilov Offensive
Can Brusilov’s great summer offensive knock Austria-Hungary out of the war and save the Tsar’s throne?

1916 The Somme
Could you do better than Sir Douglas Haig in this refight of the Great War’s most controversial battle?

1917 Nivelle Offensive
Planned as a war winning offensive, it is well known that General Nivelle’s attack on the Chemin des Dames was a great failure. But failure wasn’t inevitable and by choosing your objectives and deploying your key units wisely, here is your opportunity to achieve a great victory over the German army.

1918 Second Marne
Can Ludendorff break through on the Chemin des Dames and reach Paris, or will enemy reinforcements, including Americans and Italians, stop them in their tracks? Relive the battles that brought the Germans so close to Paris in 1918, and the historic actions of US forces at Château-Thierry and Belleau Wood.

1918 St Mihiel Offensive
Patton’s tanks lead the way as French and US forces clash with German and Austro-Hungarian units near Verdun, in what turned out to be one of the most successful offensives of the war.
1918 Meuse Argonne

Inspired by the actions of Major Whittlesey’s famous “Lost Battalion”, this campaign focuses on General Pershing’s American forces as they launch a great offensive to liberate French territory. Can Pershing liberate Sedan before the war is over?

http://www.battlefront.com/community/sh ... p?t=105942

Bill
